If you\u2019re on social media, chances are you\u2019ve seen Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet and the buzzy rollout for <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/company\/a24\/\" title=\"A24\" class=\"company-link\">A24<\/a>\u2019s upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/josh-safdie\/\" title=\"Josh Safdie\" class=\"company-link\">Josh Safdie<\/a>\u2013directed sports drama in which the 29-year-old actor plays a young man chasing fame in the world of competitive ping pong. The film also stars <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/gwyneth-paltrow\/\" title=\"Gwyneth Paltrow\" class=\"company-link\">Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/tyler\/\" title=\"Tyler\" class=\"company-link\">Tyler<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/the-creator\/\" title=\"The Creator\" class=\"company-link\">The Creator<\/a>, and Odessa A\u2019zion. Since dropping its first trailer in August, A24 has steadily ramped up the marketing ahead of the film\u2019s Christmas Day release.<\/p>\n<section class=\"wp-block-observer-newsletters observer-newsletters--in-content\">\n<\/section>\n<p data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"654\">Since its founding in 2012, A24 has grown from a niche indie label into <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/2025\/09\/a24-studio-founder-media-strategy\/\" data-lasso-id=\"2875247\">a $3.5 billion company,<\/a> beloved by young cinephiles for its arthouse slate and distinctive merch. At the center of its latest marketing campaign is Chalamet himself, who commands the same Gen Z demographic the studio is targeting. GQ editor <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/frazier-tharpe\/\" title=\"Frazier Tharpe\" class=\"company-link\">Frazier Tharpe<\/a> recently wrote that Chalamet is \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/timothee-chalamet-is-redefining-the-rollout\" data-lasso-id=\"2875248\">redefining the rollout<\/a>\u201d and \u201cmaking the movie-star promo cycle cool by making it weird.\u201d (A24 hasn\u2019t disclosed a specific budget for the <em data-start=\"967\" data-end=\"982\">Marty Supreme<\/em> push.)<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1483\">Chalamet has become a magnet for attention outside of his films as well. During last year\u2019s NBA season, he went viral attending Knicks games, effectively becoming an unofficial team cheerleader during the playoffs as he sat courtside with girlfriend <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/kylie-jenner-2\/\" title=\"Kylie Jenner\" class=\"company-link\">Kylie Jenner<\/a>, director <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/spike-lee\/\" title=\"Spike Lee\" class=\"company-link\">Spike Lee<\/a> and a rotating cast of celebrities. His likeness also helped spark the wave of celebrity lookalike contests that swept through major cities, and he even has a dedicated social fan club dubbed \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/style\/fashion\/club-chalamet-timothee-chalamet-simone-cromer-kylie-jenner-b189dad4\" data-lasso-id=\"2875249\">Club Chalamet.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1814\" data-end=\"2174\">One of the most viral moments of the campaign came from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wakBARkxqls\" data-lasso-id=\"2875250\">an 18-minute video<\/a> in which A24 and Chalamet staged a spoofed Zoom meeting. In it, the actor plays an egomaniac pitching increasingly absurd marketing ideas. The clip has since exploded across TikTok, Instagram Reels and X, with one moment\u2014Chalamet shouting \u201cSchwap!\u201d into the camera\u2014circulating widely.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2176\" data-end=\"2405\">But not all of it was just satire. A24 backed up the bit with <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DRPuOQHD8jx\/\" data-lasso-id=\"2875251\">actual orange blimps floating over Los Angeles<\/a>. Disney pulled a similar stunt earlier this year, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/convergent-tv\/marvel-fantastic-four-marketing-campaign\/\" data-lasso-id=\"2875252\">skywriting a giant \u201c4\u201d<\/a> to promote <em data-start=\"2370\" data-end=\"2404\">Fantastic Four: The First Steps.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2407\" data-end=\"2719\">Momentum really accelerated in October at the 63rd New York Film Festival, where Safdie and Chalamet surprised audiences with a screening. Soon after, Chalamet appeared in Times Square to show fans the first 30 minutes of the film, flanked by people in black tracksuits and oversized orange ping-pong-ball masks.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2721\" data-end=\"2906\">Then came <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/11\/21\/style\/marty-supreme-jacket-timothee-chalamet.html\" data-lasso-id=\"2875253\">the <em data-start=\"2735\" data-end=\"2750\">Marty Supreme<\/em> jackets<\/a>, which went viral almost immediately. Chalamet and celebrities like <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/kid-cudi\/\" title=\"Kid Cudi\" class=\"company-link\">Kid Cudi<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/frank-ocean-2\/\" title=\"Frank Ocean\" class=\"company-link\">Frank Ocean<\/a> were photographed wearing them in different colorways.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2908\" data-end=\"3250\">In a GQ piece, global fashion correspondent <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/samuel-hine\/\" title=\"Samuel Hine\" class=\"company-link\">Samuel Hine<\/a> wondered whether the <em data-start=\"2985\" data-end=\"3000\">Marty Supreme<\/em> jacket might be \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/timothee-chalamet-marty-supreme-nahmias-merch\" data-lasso-id=\"2875254\">the definitive garment of 2025<\/a>.\u201d Fans certainly acted like it. During a recent four-hour pop-up in New York\u2019s SoHo, A24 sold the $250 jackets to crowds who waited for hours. Chalamet even stopped by to greet fans and hand out merch.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3252\" data-end=\"3473\">The jackets aren\u2019t available on A24\u2019s online shop, and it\u2019s unclear if they ever will be. But the frenzy echoes the urgency of Supreme\u2019s in-person drop model\u2014another reminder of how effectively A24 taps into hype culture. (It\u2019s unclear whether the campaign is inspired by Supreme.)<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3646\" data-end=\"3938\">With clever marketing stunts and Chalamet\u2019s box office power (his turn as <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/person\/bob-dylan\/\" title=\"Bob Dylan\" class=\"company-link\">Bob Dylan<\/a> in Searchlight\u2019s <em data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1588\">A Complete Unknown<\/em> brought in $140.5 million worldwide, and the <em data-start=\"1674\" data-end=\"1680\">Dune<\/em> franchise has earned over $1.14 billion globally), <em data-start=\"3646\" data-end=\"3661\">Marty Supreme<\/em> is expected to strike box-office gold this holiday season. It\u2019s projected to earn <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.boxofficepro.com\/long-range-forecast-marty-supreme-song-sung-blue-provide-christmas-counterprogramming-options\/\" data-lasso-id=\"2875255\">between $7 million and $12 million<\/a> domestically over the opening weekend, in line with previous Christmas releases. Some believe<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/movieweb.com\/marty-supreme-could-become-a24s-highest-grossing-movie\/\" data-lasso-id=\"2875256\"> it could even become A24\u2019s highest-grossing title,<\/a> though others doubt a period sports drama will break out with modern audiences.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3940\" data-end=\"4249\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">A24\u2019s current top performer, <em data-start=\"3969\" data-end=\"4004\">Everything Everywhere All at Once<\/em>, grossed $145 million globally, fueled by word of mouth and its Best Picture win at the 2023 Oscars.
