{"id":2054,"date":"2025-03-18T22:57:46","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T22:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalgunowner.org\/index.php\/2025\/03\/18\/remains-of-another-indigenous-woman-murdered-by-serial-killer-found-at-landfill-in-canada-officials-confirm\/"},"modified":"2025-03-18T22:57:46","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T22:57:46","slug":"remains-of-another-indigenous-woman-murdered-by-serial-killer-found-at-landfill-in-canada-officials-confirm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalgunowner.org\/index.php\/2025\/03\/18\/remains-of-another-indigenous-woman-murdered-by-serial-killer-found-at-landfill-in-canada-officials-confirm\/","title":{"rendered":"Remains of another Indigenous woman murdered by serial killer found at landfill in Canada, officials confirm"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>The remains of a second Indigenous woman murdered by a convicted serial killer have been found in a landfill in central Canada, authorities confirmed Monday, after another victim&#8217;s remains were <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/remains-morgan-harris-indigenous-woman-serial-killer-landfill-canada\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">identified earlier this month<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Marcedes Myran was one of the Indigenous women <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/murdered-indigenous-women-serial-killer-canada-possible-human-remains\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">slain three years ago by Jeremy Skibicki<\/a><\/span>, who is serving multiple life sentences after being convicted of four murders last year.<\/p>\n<p>Skibicki met his victims in homeless shelters, in a case seen as a symbol of the dangers faced by Indigenous women in Canada, where they disproportionately fall victim to violence, termed a &#8220;genocide&#8221; by a national public inquiry in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Testimony at Skibicki&#8217;s trial said he raped, killed and dismembered Myran and another woman, Morgan Harris, in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities believed their remains were dumped at the Prairie Green Landfill site, north of Winnipeg, the capital of the province of Manitoba. I understand your calls; the pain and sorrow is unimaginable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Indigenous women represent about one-fifth of all women killed in gender-related homicides in the country \u2014 despite comprising just 5% of the female population.<\/p>\n<p>A similar crisis exists\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sanfrancisco\/news\/indigenous-women-missing-murdered-california-indian-boarding-school-yurok\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">in the U.S.<\/a><\/span>, where Native American women\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/tristen-jenni-not-invisible-missing-murdered-indigenous-people-missing-justice-podcast\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">are disproportionately targeted<\/a><\/span>\u00a0in murders, sexual assaults and other acts of violence, both on reservations and in nearby towns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There were more than 5,700 reports of missing Native women and girls in 2016, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rainn.org\/news\/sexual-violence-and-missing-and-murdered-indigenous-women\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">anti-sexual assault organization RAINN<\/a>, which cites statistics from the National Crime Information Center.
