Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued a response to Democrat Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, who was defending New England favorite Dunkin\u2019 from the ire of MAHA.<\/span><\/p>\n The exchange came after Kennedy Jr. took aim at Dunkin\u2019 during a rally last week at Brazos Hall in Austin, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going to ask Dunkin\u2019 Donuts and Starbucks, \u2018Show us the safety data that show that it\u2019s OK for a teenage girl to drink an iced coffee with 115 grams of sugar in it,\u2019\u201d RFK Jr. said at the time. \u201cI don\u2019t think they\u2019re going to be able to do it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cNo one is taking away your Dunkin\u2019. But isn\u2019t it reasonable to ask whether a drink loaded with 180 grams of sugar is safe?\u201d RFK Jr. wrote in response to Healey\u2019s tweet, which included an illustration of a Dunkin\u2019 beverage cup and text beneath it saying, \u201cCome and take it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n No one is taking away your Dunkin\u2019. But isn\u2019t it reasonable to ask whether a drink loaded with 180 grams of sugar is safe? https:\/\/t.co\/nV6KLOBf94<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Secretary Kennedy (@SecKennedy) March 5, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n His position was further clarified after the rally.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSecretary Kennedy also announced the closure of the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) loophole, requiring any new food ingredient to provide proof of safety,\u201d MAHA Action, a Kennedy-aligned nonprofit, said in a statement <\/span>posted<\/span><\/a> on Monday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cCompanies including Dunkin\u2019 Donuts and Starbucks will be required to produce safety data they were supposed to have maintained. The reforms aim to ensure American foods follow the highest safety and nutritional standards globally.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n RFK Jr. railed against the GRAS loophole during a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d appearance last month.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThat loophole was hijacked by the industry, and it was used to add thousands upon thousands of new ingredients into our food supply,\u201d Kennedy said at the time. \u201cIn Europe there\u2019s only 400 legal ingredients. This agency does not know how many ingredients there are in American food.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere is\u2026no way for any American to know if a product is safe if it is ultra processed,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
