That doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s abandoned those principles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">UHealth recently deleted webpages highlighting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and so-called gender-affirming services, information obtained by Consumers\u2019 Research and shared with The Daily Wire shows. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The move comes as the Trump administration ramps up pressure on hospitals and other institutions to scale back transgender medicine and abandon DEI initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">But UHealth\u2019s facelift may just be for show. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine operation \u2014 which once <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.med.miami.edu\/miller-school-recognized-for-diversity-and-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">boasted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> that \u201cdiversity is not just a goal, it\u2019s essential to the business of health care\u201d \u2014 still maintains racial quotas for both staff and medical school applicants. And while UHealth <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230320180241\/https:\/\/umiamihealth.org\/treatments-and-services\/lgbtq-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">deleted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> a public page outlining its transgender procedures, it still offers everything from hormone treatments to surgeries, sometimes to children as young as 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Advocates say nonprofit hospital systems receiving taxpayer support have a responsibility to focus on patient care rather than political activism. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cNonprofit hospitals receive massive taxpayer subsidies to care for the sick and keep us healthy, not to bankroll activist agendas,\u201d Consumers\u2019 Research executive director Will Hild said. His organization is publishing evidence of UHealth\u2019s ideological priorities as part of its <u><a id=\"m_380556438124433728m_-3045006689688549635OWAf2c5d792-40c8-ff0b-b285-5674e35360ac\" href=\"https:\/\/consumersresearch.org\/badmedicine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/consumersresearch.org\/badmedicine\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1773363826991000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3HkgqO57wRtJMEqYn7H99Q\">Bad Medicine<\/a><\/u> initiative, which \u201ctargets nonprofit health systems across the country who are prioritizing political ideology over patients.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Should UHealth continue to do so, it could\u00a0put it in the government\u2019s crosshairs as the Trump administration<span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u00a0ramps up scrutiny of hospitals accused of prioritizing ideological programs over patient care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cPresident Trump took swift action to protect children from harmful transgender ideology through executive orders to halt transgender interventions for kids,\u201d O. H. Skinner, executive director of the Alliance for Consumers, told The Daily Wire. \u201cThe <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">message is clear: taxpayer money should not subsidize life-ruining gender procedures on children.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">UHealth has scrubbed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230320180241\/https:\/\/umiamihealth.org\/treatments-and-services\/lgbtq-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">sites<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> detailing the wide range of transgender procedures it offers \u2014 everything from specialized hormone treatments to referrals for surgical procedures and voice treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umiamihealth.org\/en\/treatments-and-services\/infectious-diseases\/uhealth-rapid-access-wellness-clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">All of those services<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> are still very much available at UHealth \u2014 to almost all patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The UHealth Rapid Wellness Clinic <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/umiamihealth.org\/treatments-and-services\/infectious-diseases\/uhealth-rapid-access-wellness-clinic#:~:text=The%20RAPID%20Program%20offers%20services%20such%20as:,care%20at%20community%20sites%20in%20Miami%2DDade%20County\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">continues to offer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> transgender services, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">offering \u201cpersonalized, holistic care for transgender people to enhance mental and physical well-being,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">including prescriptions for \u201cfeminizing and masculinizing hormones\u201d and referrals for surgical consultations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/doctors.umiamihealth.org\/provider\/lydia-ann-fein\/1094992?_gl=1*1ifi9es*_ga*MTQ0MTcxMTA0MC4xNzcxNDQ3OTAw*_ga_JCW15RZR91*czE3NzMyMzQ0MzckbzEyJGcwJHQxNzczMjM0NDM4JGo1OSRsMCRoMA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">program materials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, those services are available to patients as young as 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Dr. Lydia Ann Fein, who leads the Gender Affirmation Program at the University of Miami Health System, said in an interview with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/local\/community\/gay-south-florida\/article244097007.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Miami Herald<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> that a significant portion of the clinic\u2019s patients are teenagers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cThirty percent of my transgender patients are teens,\u201d Fein said. \u201cI\u2019m seeing a shift to younger patients.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Fein attributed the increase in younger patients to greater visibility of transgender identities. \u201cIn general, with transgender and gender nonconforming people being more visible in society and the media, younger people are identifying this within themselves and parents are more aware,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s more accepted.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The UHealth LGBTQ Services clinic, which houses the Gender Affirmation Program, sees hundreds of patients annually. Fein said the program coordinates with specialists across multiple fields, including plastic surgery, urology, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cWe also have an ear, nose, and throat surgeon and a speech pathologist for voice training and modification surgery,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Fein also emphasized the importance of psychological support for patients seeking gender-related treatments. \u201cFor those patients, it\u2019s extremely important that they are connected to mental health care in some fashion and community organizations that offer social support,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The medical school also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.med.miami.edu\/miller-school-and-miami-dade-college-partner-on-pathways-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">partners<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> with Miami Dade College to increase the number of minority medical school applicants through mentoring programs, MCAT preparation, and financial stipends for participants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Diversity, or the lack of it, among medical professionals affects care delivery, clinical decision-making, and participation in clinical trials,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">the University of Miami says. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Most importantly, it impacts patient outcomes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Archived materials show the medical school also hosted a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210222190245\/https:\/med.miami.edu\/en\/offices\/diversity\/about-us\/task-force\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cTask Force on Racial Justice,\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> which recommended increasing recruitment of Black faculty members and encouraging more students from underrepresented minority groups to pursue training at the school. The school also launched a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/med.miami.edu\/about-us\/culture-change#:~:text=The%20Miller%20School%20of%20Medicine%20has%20a,*%20**History**%20*%20**Offices**%20*%20**Community%20Outreach**\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cCulture Change\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> initiative featuring faculty committees focused on improving institutional culture to create an \u201caffirming and energizing environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The University of Miami\u2019s medical system has also embraced environmental activism through the university\u2019s GreenU sustainability program. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The initiative promotes policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, encouraging<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/greenu.miami.edu\/initiatives\/food-and-well-being\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> reduced meat consumption<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, and shifting school food systems toward what administrators describe as more <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/greenu.miami.edu\/initiatives\/food-and-well-being\/sustainable-food\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201csustainable\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The health system has also faced questions about oversight and leadership.
