Speaking from the Department of War, less than two weeks into a conflict that has redefined modern warfare, Hegseth delivered a \u201cbottom line up front\u201d that should send shivers down the spines of the mullahs\u2014and some editors at CNN. The reality on the ground? The Iranian military is functionally extinct.<\/p>\n
Hegseth, a veteran of the media world himself, didn\u2019t hold back:<\/p>\n
\nSome in this crew, in the press, just can\u2019t stop. Allow me to make a few suggestions. People look up at the TV and they see banners. They see headlines. I used to be in that business. And I know that everything is written intentionally.\u00a0 For example, a banner or a headline, \u201cMid-East War Intensifies,\u201d splashing on the screen the last couple of days alongside visuals of civilian or energy targets that Iran has hit because that\u2019s what they do. \u201cOr more fake news from CNN,\u201d he continued. \u201cReports that the Trump administration underestimated the Iran war\u2019s impact on the Strait of Hormuz. Patently ridiculous, of course. For decades, Iran has threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This is always what they do: hold the Strait hostage. CNN doesn\u2019t think we thought of that. It\u2019s a fundamentally unserious report.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnother example of a fake headline that I saw yesterday: \u2018War Widening,\u2019\u201d he noted. \u201cHere\u2019s a real headline for you for an actual patriotic press. How about \u2018Iran Shrinking, Going Underground\u2019? You see, Iran\u2019s leaders are hiding in bunkers and moving into civilian areas. The only thing that is widening is our advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hegseth detailed an unprecedented air campaign, a lethal symphony between the U.S. Air Force and the Israelis that has conducted over 15,000 strikes in less than two weeks, more than 1,000 strikes a day. He said Iran has no air force and no navy\u2014at least not one that isn\u2019t currently decorating the floor of the Persian Gulf. Despite the tragic loss of a U.S. KC-135 tanker crew\u2014heroes Hegseth promised to meet at Dover\u2014the mission remains clear: Peace through strength. Hegseth confirmed that today will see the highest volume of sorties and bomber pulses yet.<\/p>\n
With President Trump\u2019s hand \u201cfirmly on the throttle,\u201d the objective is total victory: the destruction of the defense industrial base, the elimination of the navy, and the absolute denial of a nuclear weapon.
