{"id":22515,"date":"2026-03-31T09:50:48","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalgunowner.org\/index.php\/2026\/03\/31\/students-in-blue-state-spend-more-time-learning-about-january-6-than-the-moon-landing\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T09:50:48","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:50:48","slug":"students-in-blue-state-spend-more-time-learning-about-january-6-than-the-moon-landing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalgunowner.org\/index.php\/2026\/03\/31\/students-in-blue-state-spend-more-time-learning-about-january-6-than-the-moon-landing\/","title":{"rendered":"Students In Blue State Spend More Time Learning About January 6 Than The Moon Landing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative\" data-narration-container=\"true\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Students in New Mexico will learn more about the January 6 Capitol riot and climate change than the moon landing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">New Mexico high school <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/High-School-United-States-History.docx.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">history guidelines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> contain over a dozen references to the January 6 riot while only mentioning the moon landing once. The guidelines, part of the New Mexico Instructional Scope for History, are largely focused on racial and gender grievances and encourage teachers to promote Democratic politicians and lament how the richest men in the United States today are \u201cmostly white.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cThe freedom of those in America and Ukraine after the 2021 Capital [sic] Insurrection and Russian invasion of Ukraine are two events that reveal the rights and safety of women, immigrants, children, and the LGBTQ community are at risk,\u201d an example discussion in the guidance reads.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Teachers are also instructed to show footage from NBC showing \u201cAmericans armed with weapons and military-type gear storming the Capital, breaking glass, defacing sacred art, political statues and podiums on and in our Capital [sic] building in Washington, DC.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The purpose of the footage is to \u201cdisprove some of the beliefs that it was not violent or a threat to our democracy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The repeated misspelling of \u201cCapitol\u201d in the January 6 section is one of several errors in the guidelines. In another section, t<span style=\"font-weight:400\">eachers are encouraged to list Democratic politicians from racial and sexual minorities, including \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">VP [Kamala] Harris, Transportation Secretary [Pete] Buttigieg, Interior Secretary [Deb] Haaland and Supreme Court Justice Brown.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The last example appears to be a reference to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Rhyen Staley, the director of research at Defending Education, said the documents were an example of politics being pushed in the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cThese state level documents expose a troubling pattern by education activists of pushing leftwing political and social biases into K-12 classrooms as established \u2018facts,&#8217;\u201d Staley told The Daily Wire. \u201cStudents and families deserve an education that values a politically neutral approach to weighing different sides of issues, not political indoctrination.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.ped.nm.gov\/bureaus\/curriculum-instruction\/new-mexico-instructional-scope-nmis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">New Mexico Instructional Scope<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> is an \u201ceducator influenced tool designed to provide guidance and support to assure that all students in New Mexico have access to content at their grade level combined with the use of impactful instructional strategies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The history guidelines reveal a heavy focus on left-wing activism and grievance politics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Teachers are suggested to ask students why the United States still struggles \u201cwith the idea of racial equality,\u201d discuss the pros and cons of reparations, and assess \u201cwho is responsible for the socio-economic disparities in early U.S. immigration to today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the moon landing and the space race are each only mentioned once<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The guidance also suggests that states like Georgia and Florida have implemented laws that are similar to voting restrictions on black people during the Jim Crow era. Teachers are recommended to provide \u201cCurrent suppression of voting rights\u201d in examples of Georgia, Texas, Florida, and New Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cHow does the current suppression of voting rights compare to the suppression of voting rights during and immediately following the Reconstruction Era?\u201d a question for students said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Another suggested discussion is whether there are \u201cmore opportunities for minorities today in the business realm.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cAbsolutely there is more opportunity today than there was back then, but that doesn\u2019t mean that things are totally equal. Even though there are lots of Black owned businesses, the richest men in the country are still mostly white,\u201d a suggested student response to the question said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Other guidance included in the history materials is for students to be encouraged to \u201cjoin a program already in existence and help spread their message to prevent global warming\u201d or write to their representative about climate change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Students should be able to define LGBTQ (\u201cLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, queer or questioning\u201d) and PFLAG (\u201cParents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cHow do historically underrepresented groups such as women of color, LGBTQ and Indigenous people offerse [SIC] diverse views of society,\u201d teachers should ask students, according to the guidance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Similar politically focused guidance is found in materials for instruction on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/High-School-World-History-NMIS.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">world history<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.ped.nm.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/High-School-Ethnic-Cultural-and-Identity.docx.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">ethnic studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">In the guidance for world history, \u201cequity\u201d is defined as the principle \u201cthat all citizens have had different opportunities and experiences, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The world history guidance also contains guidance recommending that students \u201ccreate their own posters that show their actions on climate change\u201d after watching a climate alarmist documentary from former Vice President Al Gore.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The ethnic, cultural, and identity guidance discusses left-wing groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center, Black Lives Matter, and the Human Rights Campaign.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cHow do advocacy at the local, community, national and global levels work together to achieve change over time?\u201d a supporting question asks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">It also introduces students to the concept of \u201cgender identity,\u201d which it defines as \u201didentification with, or sense of belonging to, a particular group based on gender, such as cisgender, transgender, agender, bigender.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>New Mexico, a solidly blue state, has previously come <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-mexico-government-survey-asks-middle-and-high-school-students-if-they-are-two-spirit?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=New+Mexico+Government+Survey+Asks+Middle+And+High+School+Students+If+They+Are+\u2018Two-Spirit\u2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">under scrutiny<\/a> for asking high school students whether they identify as \u201ctwo-spirit\u201d or transgender through its Youth Risk and Resiliency Survey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/students-in-this-state-spend-more-time-learning-about-january-6-than-the-moon-landing\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students in New Mexico will learn more about the January 6 Capitol riot and climate change than the moon landing.
