I can\u2019t really stop them. I can only be myself,\u201d Alcock added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Alcock assumed people wouldn\u2019t like the movie because she\u2019s a woman, but her description of the plot points to a different criticism fans have raised. She said her character, Kara Zor-El\/Supergirl, is \u201cgiven this incredible responsibility and doesn\u2019t know how to deal with it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cShe\u2019s not trying to save the world\u2014she\u2019s just trying to save her own,\u201d Alcock told Vanity Fair. \u201cThis film is an excellent reminder that the world can be crumbling around you, but you can be the hero of your own story.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The interview inspired many negative reactions on social media, with critics calling out Alcock for complaining about backlash that hadn\u2019t even happened yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cThese movies are so bad that they have to start attacking the fans before the movie even comes out,\u201d one person <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/newspolitics\/status\/2039035489760460880?s=43\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">observed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cActors really need to go back to just promoting the movie and staying away from anything else, because this type of discourse does nothing but harm its chances,\u201d another person <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/reviewsdino2\/status\/2039357302365446654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">agreed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cI suspect she\u2019ll face backlash about \u2018simply existing\u2019 in a movie that doesn\u2019t look interesting and which is part of a cinematic universe that\u2019s already struggling with the disinterest of general audiences following a lackluster Superman and various TV shows that few people even noticed happened\u2026 but saying it\u2019s \u2018simply existing as a woman\u2019 certainly works better for generating some sort of buzz,\u201d a third commenter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HarfangDneiges\/status\/2039323848621916611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">wrote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Another comment <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RecruitBoss\/status\/2039048717525762381\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">noted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, \u201cThis is called pre-release critical armor. Any criticism of this movie will be branded as sexist or misogynistic. They use race and gender as critical armor to protect their poorly written scripts from legitimate criticism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Zegler became a legend following the disastrous release of Disney\u2019s \u201cSnow White\u201d in 2025. The movie was bad, but additionally, the lead actress made it all worse by disparaging fans and the original storyline ahead of its release.
