The vice mayor of Coral Springs, Florida, was found dead at her home on Wednesday morning, and authorities later arrested her husband and charged him with premeditated murder.<\/p>\n
Nancy Metayer Bowen, 38, was discovered by police officers conducting a wellness check at around 10:00 a.m., according to authorities.<\/p>\n
Her husband, 40-year-old Stephen Bowen, was later arrested at an apartment complex in Plantation, Florida, about 13 miles south of Coral Springs. He faces charges of premeditated murder and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, NBC Miami reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n Coral Springs Police Chief Brad Mock said the case \u201cis being investigated as a domestic violence incident,\u201d but declined to reveal additional details as the investigation remains ongoing. According to Stephen Bowen\u2019s arrest report, the suspect told his uncle that he shot Metayer Bowen \u201cthree times with a shotgun the previous night and then slept downstairs,\u201d Miami outlet WPLG Local 10 reported.<\/p>\n Police said they found Metayer Bowen\u2019s body on the second floor of her home lying in a bed and wrapped in blankets and garbage bags. Police also said they found three shotgun shells and burn marks on a pillow \u201cas if it were fashioned as a makeshift silencer.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen asked why (he killed her), Stephen Bowen said that he \u2018couldn\u2019t take it anymore,\u2019\u201d the arrest report added. The suspect\u2019s mother told police that she did not know of any marital issues between the couple, according to the report.<\/p>\n Stephen Bowen is being held in jail without bond in Broward County.<\/p>\n \u201cTo say today is a very dark day for us in Coral Springs is an understatement,\u201d City Manager Catherine Givens said<\/a> at the press conference. \u201cOur hearts are truly broken.\u201d<\/p>\n
