{"id":23614,"date":"2026-04-24T03:14:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T03:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalgunowner.org\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/gop-has-one-final-chance-to-counteract-dems-big-win\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T03:14:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T03:14:19","slug":"gop-has-one-final-chance-to-counteract-dems-big-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalgunowner.org\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/gop-has-one-final-chance-to-counteract-dems-big-win\/","title":{"rendered":"GOP Has One Final Chance To Counteract Dems Big Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>Florida could be the Republicans\u2019 last stand in the mid-decade redistricting battle, as the state legislature prepares to convene a special session Tuesday to consider new congressional maps.<\/p>\n<p>If approved, the proposed maps could add three to five seats that favor Republicans in the state, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/04\/23\/florida-redistricting-desantis-republicans-maps-trump-00887120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico,<\/a>\u00a0potentially shaping the balance of power in a narrowly divided U.S. House.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has criticized the effort, warning Florida Republicans to \u201cF around and find out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they go down the road of a DeSantis dummymander, the Florida Republicans are going to find themselves in the same situation as Texas Republicans who are on the run right now,\u201d Jeffries said at a Wednesday press conference.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffries also expressed confidence that Democrats will win tough seats in red states, adding, &#8220;Under no circumstances are Texas Republicans picking up five seats. They&#8217;ll be fortunate if they get two or three. While in California, we are going to get all five.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Republicans are dummymandering their way into the minority before a single vote is cast because they started this war and we&#8217;re going to finish it,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis laughed off Jeffries&#8217; comments, suggesting that a national campaign by Democrats targeting the Sunshine State would only bolster the GOP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing that could be better for Republicans in Florida to see Hakeem Jeffries everywhere around this state,\u201d DeSantis said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/792314-the-door-is-open-ron-desantis-scoffs-at-hakeem-jeffries-threat-to-expand-dem-efforts-in-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida Politics<\/a>. &#8220;Please, be my guest. I will pay for you to come down to Florida and campaign. I\u2019ll put you up in the Florida Governor\u2019s mansion. We\u2019ll take you fishing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mid-decade redistricting efforts have rocked numerous states. In California, recent changes are expected to favor Democrats in several districts, while Texas Republicans have approved new maps to strengthen their position.<\/p>\n<p>In Virginia, a Tuesday special election approved changes that could create four more Democrat-leaning seats, though a state circuit court judge has temporarily blocked the results from taking effect pending further legal review, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/virginia-dem-power-grab-faces-courtroom-showdown?author=Cameron+Arcand&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=3&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=Virginia+Dem+Power+Grab+Faces+Courtroom+Showdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>When The Daily Wire reached out to DeSantis\u2019 office for further comment, a spokesperson simply stated, \u201cStay tuned!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the state level, Democrats in Florida are also pushing back on the process. State Sen. Carlos Guillermo Smith criticized the lack of publicly released maps ahead of the session.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust 6 days out from the Florida GOP dummymander and still NO MAPS!\u201d Smith posted to X on Wednesday. \u201cThey want rigged Congressional maps that keep Trump\u2019s Republican party in power despite majority opposition from Florida voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s current congressional delegation includes eight Democrats and 20 Republicans. Nationally, Republicans hold a slim 218-212 majority in the House, with several vacancies and a number of competitive races expected to factor into the chamber&#8217;s balance of power.
