You just can\u2019t earn that,\u201d the democratic socialist congresswoman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aTZzXzRCA50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> comedian Ilana Glazer on an episode of the \u201cIt\u2019s Open\u201d podcast. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cYou can get market power, you can break rules, you can do all sorts of things,\u201d AOC said. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cYou can abuse labor laws, you can pay people less than what they\u2019re worth. But you can\u2019t earn that, right? When the critics started calling her out, AOC doubled down in an X post she <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AOC\/status\/2052529622655402174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared<\/a> Thursday evening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cThe single largest form of theft in America is wage theft. $50 billion a year are stolen from American workers,\u201d she wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cSome people get enraged that I draw attention to this. That\u2019s on them. Let them call me shrill, dumb, inexperienced, girly, uneducated \u2013 these folks will say anything to distract from or undercut the truth that working people are getting screwed, and giving people a fair shake means we must have a grown conversation about reigning in abuse of power.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Commenters with common sense pointed out the multiple flaws in her argument.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cLies. Billionaires get rich by innovating and risk-taking, offering new and better goods and services at prices people are willing to pay. Government makes cash through confiscation. AOC\u2019s conspiratorial, envious view of the world leads to impoverishment and tyranny,\u201d Ben Shapiro, the editor emeritus of The Daily Wire, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/benshapiro\/status\/2052576063738269819\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">wrote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cSocialists don\u2019t run businesses,\u201d author Helen Raleigh <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HRaleighspeaks\/status\/2052521924090097961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">wrote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">. \u201cThey produce nothing valuable or desirable that others want. They enrich themselves only by taking from others by force. Therefore, they don\u2019t understand how entrepreneurs can be so wildly successful in a free market simply by providing goods or services many people want and are willing to pay for.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cWhat a naive and wrong point of view. So much of leftist politics and thinking these days is about justifying envy,\u201d entrepreneur and venture capitalist Joe Lonsdale <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JTLonsdale\/status\/2052452637245657095\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">agreed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">. \u201cI\u2019ve co-founded six different multi-billion dollar companies, with more on the way. AOC perhaps isn\u2019t bright enough to make a lot of money without massive grift \u2013 sure. But 10000\u2019s who worked with me are rich; some are also billionaires!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">He added, \u201cOur innovation sector is the best in the world, solving problems and growing the pie with US talent for a brighter future for all. I\u2019m aligned against cronyism.
